A BUNCH of exceptionally hardy souls braved bitterly cold conditions to join Wight Druids’ rite and celebration of Imbolc at The Longstone.
Although it is often windy at this sacred site, the combination of a minus 5 degree windchill and winds gusting up to around 27mph proivded a serious challenge for the first celebration of spring.
Nevertheless, at one point we were joined by the ponies that graze this fine sweeping green downland and on the way home, the sun came blazing through for a while as if to answer our prayers to Brighid in achnowledgement of the first stirrings of spring.

Imbolc, 2009

WIGHT Druids will be offering open public rite and celebration for the festival of Imbolc at The Longstone, Mottistone, Isle of Wight, on Sunday, February 1, 2009, from noon.
As ever, all who approach with open heart and mind in the spirit of mutual respect that is the Druid ethic will be most welcome.

Winter Solstice, 2008

Winter Solstice, 2008

A DELIGHTFUL gathering on a high clifftop overlooking the sea greeted the new light for Alban Arthan, the Winter Solstice.
After the main rite and celebration, we ‘drummed up the sun’ – a fine way to keep warm in the deep of winter.
Our thanks to Robin Whitehead for his pictures of the event.
